VELVET MORNING

Velvet Morning

I was awake early this morning
And the grass was damp with dew,
I sat outside and waited
For the dawn to come peeping through.

I took my cup of coffee with me
And waited for the dayspring
Soon the sky was changing
And the birds were on the wing.

I watched as oh so gently
Mother Nature drew the curtain back
Revealing many muted colours ~
No more velvet black.

Soft and fluffy clouds appeared
In a silver grey blue sky
A waxing gibbous moon still lingered
In the quiet morning sky.

Morning noises soon were heard
As neighbours left for toil,
The beauty of this morning
None could ever spoil.

A spider kept on working
And his web was damp with dew
The diamond dew drops thrilled me
The world was born anew.

A time of peace and solace
A time quite set apart
When I communed with nature
Face to face, and heart to heart.

MY MORNING

MY MORNING

I watched the dawn this morning
And felt some peace and calm,
I felt the velvet wings of morning
Shelter me from harm.

I listened to the quiet this morning
And found some sweet release,
I heard the birds’ first songs
And I felt the world at peace.

I watched the sunrise this morning
And saw an artist’s hand,
I saw the paint upon the canvas
And the way that it is planned.

I saw the dew upon the rose this morning
And walked on dew kissed grass,
I knew these early morning delights
Would very quickly pass.

I offered up my thanks this morning
From a heart that knows some fears,
I experienced the miracle of morning
And quietly wiped away my tears.

I watched the dawn this morning
And saw so many things
I gathered strength this morning
For whatever my day brings.

BEAUTY AT MORNING

BEAUTY IN MY MORNING

I watched the dawn this morning
And felt some peace and calm,
I felt the velvet wings of morning
Shelter me from harm.

I listened to the quiet this morning
And found some sweet release,
I heard the birds’ first songs
And I felt the world at peace.

I watched the sunrise this morning
And saw an artist’s hand,
I saw the paint upon the canvas
And the way that it is planned.

I saw the dewdrop on the rose this morning
And walked on dew kissed grass,
I knew these early morning delights
Would very quickly pass.

I offered up my thanks this morning
From a heart that’s known some fears,
I experienced the miracle of morning
And quietly wiped away my tears.

I watched the dawn this morning
And saw so many things
I gathered strength this morning
For whatever my day brings.

THE ART OF MORNING

"If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold me." Psalm 139: 9, 10

THE ART OF MORNING

I have been awake since early
As sleep eluded me,
So I got up and settled here
And made a cup of tea.

Too early for the paper
Or to phone a friend to talk.
Too early for so many things,
Too early for a walk.

I felt the cool of morning,
Saw the waking of the world
I saw the glory of the sunrise ~
Morning’s flag gently unfurled.

I heard the chorus of the birds
As they woke so rested.
Saw the flutter of a leaf
On a tree where they had nested.

I listened to the waking world
On a day so fresh and new.
I saw the orange wisp of clouds
On a sky now faintly blue.

I saw this new beginning
And felt blessed to be a part
Of this very special showing
Of Mother Nature’s art.
