CLOSED FOR THE WINTER

CLOSED FOR THE WINTER

“Closed for the winter “
Windows salt sea stained,
Doors all closed and shuttered
Puddles where it has rained.

Paper blowing down the street
Sand blowing from the beach,
Sea birds soaring and dipping
A sad and mournful screech.

Grey skies and murky waters
Wind blowing from the sea
“Closed for the winter”
Brings contemplation to me.

Several brave souls walking
On a jetty sprayed with foam
Happy to be walking
Yet happy to go home.

A Restaurant all cosy
With warmth inside its door
Lunch available and ready
All this and so much more.

No outside tables and umbrellas
No shade from a blistering sun,
Just a bleak and forlorn picture
With winter nearly done.

The winter will not last
And signs will be taken down
Windows washed and shining
A summer sun beating down.

Children will play and splash
In the water on lengthening days ~
“Closed for the winter” will be just a memory
Which will fade in the summer heat haze.

WINDY IN THE GARDEN OF THE FAE.

WINDY IN THE GARDEN OF THE FAE

It’s windy in the garden
Blowing things around
Making rustling noises
As the leaves hit the ground.

There are ripples on the water,
And a bubble in the river,
The reeds and plants are dancing
Their leaves are all a quiver.

Fairy wings are struggling
To make a gentle flight,
The wind is dancing wildly
On this,  a full moon night.

Fairy hair is tousled
And wands are all askew
But Fairy folk are busy
Their very best to do.

Fairy folk are gathering
To spend some time together,
They will keep each other safe
In such windy weather.

WINTER SOLSTICE

WINTER SOLSTICE

It is the winter solstice~
The shortest day of the year
And this serves to remind me
That spring will soon be here.

I love these winter days
With hail and wind and rain.
I am always grateful
When these days come round again.

I love the silver greyness ~
The bead curtains of welcome rain.
I love to sit and watch the raindrops
As they run down my windowpane.

I love the winter trees
All stark and bare of leaves.
I love a winter seaside walk ~
The ocean as she heaves.

I love the winter cooking smells
Of soups and stew and bread.
I love to hear the winter noises
As I lie in my bed.

I love a winter evening
And the firesides gentle glow.
I see my life pass before me
As the seasons come and go.

I love this winter season
Which all too soon will end ~
Winter is my companion
And I am glad to call her friend!

THE TAPESTRY OF NATURE

TAPESTRY OF NATURE

How beautiful the tapestry
Of rich brown earth and soil,
Leaves on trees and shelter given
Memories to recall.

The silver grey of winter skies,
The fading pinks of morning,
Blue patches in a leaden sky
And storms without a warning.

The golden waves of fields of grain
And birds upon the  wing,
Cattle grazing peacefully
All these such joy can bring.

The ice-cold chill of winter wind
The warmth of summer’s glow,
Bulbs in springtime – an autumn storm
These things I am sure you know.

So value the tapestry of life
Enjoy each and every minute
Be sure you look and really see
How you have your place in it.
