WINTER SOLSTICE

WINTER SOLSTICE

It is the winter solstice~
The shortest day of the year
And this serves to remind me
That spring will soon be here.

I love these winter days
With hail and wind and rain.
I am always grateful
When these days come round again.

I love the silver greyness ~
The bead curtains of welcome rain.
I love to sit and watch the raindrops
As they run down my windowpane.

I love the winter trees
All stark and bare of leaves.
I love a winter seaside walk ~
The ocean as she heaves.

I love the winter cooking smells
Of soups and stew and bread.
I love to hear the winter noises
As I lie in my bed.

I love a winter evening
And the firesides gentle glow.
I see my life pass before me
As the seasons come and go.

I love this winter season
Which all too soon will end ~
Winter is my companion
And I am glad to call her friend!

RAIN

RAIN

It has been grey and overcast
Throughout this entire day.
And rain has fallen
In the nicest possible way.

There was no wind to drive and blow
And make the day feel bad.
Just a lovely quiet and gentle rain
The kind I am sure you’ve had.

There are puddles everywhere
And I know for certain
These rain drops were falling for me
Like a silver bead curtain.

I looked at the drops on the petals fair
Of the roses in wintertime bloom.
I knew their beauty would soon pass
Like the shadows from the moon.

I looked at the soft green blades of grass
On the lawn just recently mown.
And I saw the flowers now in bloom
From the seeds that I had sown.

I smelled the rich earth and I saw
The promise of Nature’s hand
I saw it all in my garden today
And  for me it was truly grand.

Rain on the leaves of the gum trees,
Rain on the Norfolk Island Pine.
I looked at these and was thankful
That this beauty here was mine.

A COLD COMPANION

A COLD COMPANION

I walked today
And she held my hand,
She let me see the mist ~
The damp upon the land.

I felt her cold breath
As she whispered in my ears ~
That this is how it has always been
Over all the years.

I heard her laughter
As the wind blew through the trees
We walked together by the river ~
What special times are these. !

I saw the water ripple
As we skipped a stone ~
Winter was my companion
And I was not alone.

Her tears of rain upon my face
Her fingers through my hair
I walked today with winter
Her presence everywhere.

SLEEP BE MY COMPANION

SLEEP – BE MY COMPANION

Sleep be my companion
And hold me in your arms.
Tell me I need not fear
The chill of winter’s harms.

Sleep be my companion
Let me rest with you,
Let me feel your comfort
Until morning comes peeping through.

Sleep be my companion
While I am snug and warm inside,
Let me hear your sweet dreams lapping
Let me drift upon your tide

Sleep be my companion ~
No nasty dreams for me.
Let me feel your gentle breezes
Let me sail upon your sea.

Sleep be my companion
Let me wake refreshed again,
No more staring at the ceiling
And listening to the rain.

Sleep be my companion
Calm my troubled heart
Let us meet again each night
And another journey start.
