LOVE THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD

LOVE THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD

I was thinking of days gone by
When little boys climbed trees,
Tore their pants, filled their pockets,
And often skinned their knees.

How they were the Kings in castles
With dragons to chase and slay,
And how they’d fish in ponds
And collect frogs every day.

A rope swing over the river
When days were long and warm,
Coming home for dinner,
To a place that was safe and warm,

Little girls in dress up clothes
With flowers in their hair,
Discussing their dolls and problems,
And rocking their “babies” with care.

Fairy Queens and Princesses
With fairy wings and wands,
Looking at their reflections
In cool still garden ponds.

Making perfume from rose petals,
And baking lots of mud pies,
Coming home at end of day
With the light of sleep in their eyes.

The world has changed for everyone
And parents find it hard
To let their children play outside
In the safety of their back yard.

Love the children of the world
Encourage them to grow,
To live and learn in safety
To be the best we know.

Store away the memories
Of childhood trust and love,
Keep them close in heart and thought
And bless them with your love.

SUMMER DAYS AT PEACE

SUMMER DAYS AT PEACE

A letter tells me of your dreams
Of long summer days ahead ~
"It's going to be a wonderful summer,'
At least that's what the letter said.
An oak tree for shelter and shade
From the damaging heat of the sun,
"My special place" you call it ~
Reward for a battle won.

I see you now in mottled shadow
In the warmth of summer days,
Your glasses and your book on the table
Taking time to read and to laze.
In my mind I picture your rattan chair
With comfortable pillows galore ~
Iced tea right there beside you
You could not ask for more.

I sense in you a comfort and ease
A longing for days of peace,
Sunset walks beside the ocean
And joys that never cease.
I see your summer hat on the table
And the dog asleep at your side,
I feel the gentle summer breeze
And I hear the ocean tide.

Oh to walk beside you at the end of day
To share just how you feel,
To sit and read together
To share conversation real.
I see you now in summer days,
Sitting in your special place,
I see the easing of the tension
And the lines gone from your face.

If I close my eyes up really tight
And allow my thoughts to roam,
I can see me sitting beside you
In this place that you call "home".
If I had the wings of an angel
I would be right there at your side
We would spend a special summer
Sharing joy we could not hide.

I don't have the wings of an angel
So in thought I travel to you
And spend time in your specal place
Just like good friends should do.
Often in my mind I'll visit you
And spend hours reading too,
We'll share a sweet companionship
And friendship ever true.

AUTUMN IN ADELAIDE

AUTUMN

Autumn brings with her
An end to summer days,
A lengthening of the shadows ~
A misty morning haze.
Cooler evenings – falling leaves
And chill is in the air.
Stop and look around you
At colour changing everywhere.

The mornings are much darker
And days are shorter too.
Autumn blows her cooler breath
And kisses the ground with dew.

She spreads her golden carpet
Of leaves of red and gold.
Trees are stark in their nakedness ~
She really is quite bold.
It is a time of reflection for me
Of beauty rich and rare.
A very special and precious time
When autumn in is in the air.

TODAY

TODAY

Today is picture perfect
The sky is a gentle blue
Just the special type of day
To spend some hours with you.
Let's sit beside the river
And watch the ripples as they flow
Onward and forward they travel
To where we cannot know.

Let's find some shade from the sun
And feel the gentle breeze,
Treasured memories are gathered
On Autumn days like these.
Let's whisper deepest secret thoughts
Discussion without fears,
Let's laugh and talk and ponder
Let's wipe away the tears.

Autumn leaves we can gather
And release them on the flow
Just like our innermost thoughts
Who knows where they will go.
Will they bounce up the crest
Or be taken down below
Will our shared thoughts be deep ~
Only we can ever know.

Let's drag sticks through the water
And find some leafy glade,
A special time of friendship
We'll be glad that we have stayed.
We will remember the sunshine
The shade and the trees,
We will remember today
And the making of memories.

So when the shadows lengthen
And there is a coolness in the air,
The pain of ending this rendezvous
Will be much too much to bear.
But as days go hastening on
And the seasons change once more,
We can always revisit this day
By stepping through memory's door.
